Sean McDermott: Bills’ end-game ‘my fault’

HOUSTON (WROC) — After forcing a punt, the Bills got the ball back with 32 seconds left on their own 3-yard line. They were tied 20-20 and the Texans had all three of their timeouts.

The Bills were tasked with running out the clock to force overtime. They failed and the Texans kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired.

“We’re in a tough situation,” said McDermott after the game. “They’re holding three timeouts, they’ve got a good field goal kicker. We needed to run the clock and move the chains and that’s on me. We didn’t do that there, and that’s my fault.”

Sean McDermott and the Bills’ coaching staff chose to pass the ball three times, with all three passes falling incomplete. The Bills were forced to punt, and after a 13-yard return and a net 43-yard punt, Houston had the ball on Buffalo’s 46 yard-line.

After the game, McDermott was asked if he was on board with the playcalling, passing the ball three times.

“I’m not going to get into that. I don’t think that’s relevant right now. Overall, that’s on me. We’ve just got to do a better job, I’ve got to do a better job in that situation,” said McDermott.
