Montriel Humble was traveling on that FlixBus because her family thought it would be safer than driving from Rochester to Niagara Falls to report to military duty. After the crash happened, Humble immediately tried to free herself.

“Everyone just started climbing out, so she just climbed out,” explained Anitra Jeffries, Montriel Humble’s mother. “Some people weren’t able to climb out. She was just trying to get out of there, they were saying that everybody should get out.”

Humble, described as a sweet person, called her mother the moment she was able to crawl out of the bus which was flipped over.

“When I answered, immediately she was frantic,” said Jeffries. “The first thing she said was ‘pray for me, pray for me,’ I’m like, what? What’s going on!? She said, ‘ma, I’m in so much pain.’”
