Former Lockport restaurant goes up in flames

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The site of a former Lockport tavern went up in flames late Monday night, according to authorities.

Crews responded to 167 Van Buren Street, formerly home of Pleasant Valley Tavern, just after 11:15 p.m. Monday.

When crews arrived, flames were coming through the door on the east side of the first floor and had gone up to the second floor. Crews fought the fire for about three hours and were on scene for over four hours.

The bar had been closed for several years. Investigators believed that squatters were living in the building, as several propane tanks and bedding materials were found inside. No one was inside during the fire, and there were no injuries. Damages were estimated at $115,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
