Warming shelters in Western NY see surge as bitter cold hits

BUFFALO, N.Y. — As dangerously cold temperatures continue to sweep across Western New York, warming shelters are seeing a significant increase in demand as vulnerable people seek refuge from bitter conditions.

“The weather definitely generated a demand for this kind of thing,” said Chris Amico with the Niagara Gospel Mission “People want a place to stay that’s warm.”
