Corrections strike nears a week, as officers on line lose pay, benefits

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) – New York State corrections officers are nearing a full week walking off the job, and on strike from more than 30 prison facilities across the state.

In a statement provided to WBEN on Saturday, the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) detailed the financial implications workers are withstanding in participating in the strike.

“Those continuing to work in facilities would receive a temporary increased overtime pay rate. It also provided immunity from discipline for those walking off the picket line and returning to work, resulting in several officers returning to duty,” the statement read…
