Prison guard strike continues across the state

ALDEN, N.Y. — Corrections officers are receiving more support on the front lines during their “wildcat” strike at New York state prisons.

Town board members from across Western New York — including Alden, Marilla, Wales, Lancaster, Cheektowaga, Collins, Concord, and Holland — stood in solidarity with officers Saturday morning at the Wende Correctional Facility.

The state has temporarily suspended parts of the HALT Act, a law limiting how long an inmate can be placed in solitary confinement. State officials have also promised to drop penalties for officers who returned to work by midnight Friday and more than double their hourly rate…
