Correction officers in N.Y. state will end strike and reach new deal, reports say

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Striking New York state correction officers have reached a new work agreement and will end their weeks long strike, according to a new report from Gothamist.

The officers will end their “wildcat” strike, meaning it was unsanctioned by the union, which began in February and begin returning to work on Monday, Gothamist reports.

The officers who walked off the job were complaining about safe staffing levels, with some guards being mandated to work 24 hour overtime shifts according to a memo released by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) which outlines the provisional agreement…
