Governor Hochul ends illegal work stoppage, unveils correctional system reforms

Albany, NY (WRGB) — Governor Kathy Hochul provided an update Tuesday following the conclusion of a 22-day illegal work stoppage within New York’s correctional system, outlining a comprehensive plan to recover, recruit, and rebuild the system.

The strike’s end follows four negotiation attempts between the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) and the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA).

More than 10,000 security personnel are currently working at correctional facilities, with over 6,000 National Guard members deployed to maintain safety and security.
