Neighborhood Cleanups: Recipe for Success = WNY Trash Mob and The Tool Library

My neighborhood recently held a cleanup for our section of Elmwood Avenue, now called the “Mid Elmwood.” Community activist Linda Gellman headed up the event through the Mid Elmwood Business Alliance, that attracted around 15 people for a Saturday morning cleanup (post Earth Day).

The group met at Rite Aid – a site that is notorious for being blighted. The event was sponsored by WNY Trash Mob and The Tool Library.

When we arrived to the parking lot, there were coffee and donuts awaiting the volunteers. But more importantly, there was a Tool Library signature sheet, where people could sign out various cleanup tools, including shovels, brooms, grabbers, and rakes. This Tool Library element made the cleanup a breeze, and I highly suggest that anyone that is looking to organize a neighborhood cleanup reach out to the organization…
