Pizzeria struck after 16-year-old driver accidentally puts gear in wrong position

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Just before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, East Aurora Police received multiple calls reporting a vehicle had crashed into Pizza Del Aureos on Oakwood Avenue.

According to police, a 16-year-old boy with a learner permit, accompanied by a legal licensed operator, intended to back out of a parking space but mistakenly put his 2018 Jeep Wrangler in drive rather than reverse.

The East Aurora Fire Department and Town of Aurora code and building inspector responded to the scene. There were no injuries reported and according to EAPD, the only damage to the building was to windows, which were boarded up. The business closed early, but is open Friday despite the accident.

“Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes and concern,” Pizza Del Aureo’s said in a post on social media. “We had an unfortunate incident at the restaurant on Thursday. We had to close early. We are grateful to everyone who helped us out.”…
