Battle between city and Sylvia’s House continues with lawsuit, condemnation notice

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The occupants at Sylvia’s House on Bailey Avenue are hoping they can get a little more time in their home after the latest notice from the City of Buffalo.

The city placed a notice of condemnation on the homeless shelter’s door on Wednesday, saying it has “illegally occupied the structure as a homeless shelter without health, fire and safety requirements.”

That notice is the second notice Sylvia’s House received from the city in the last week. The city on Thursday issued a cease operations order due to violations of state regulations and building codes, ordering all occupants to vacate within 24 hours…
