As if out of the blue, a newly organized band of volunteers has tackled a massive grassroots cleanup effort in Black Rock. The Bridge the Block Community Clean-Up, led by business owner Brennon Hall of Bridge Studios NY, just goes to show how effective a small group of people can be when it comes to tidying up a commercial district.
This past Saturday, dozens of Black Rock residents, volunteers, and block captains set out to beautify the neighborhood. The purpose of the initiative was to clear litter, tend to green spaces, and build stronger connections across blocks.
“We wanted to bring people together not just to clean up, but to connect,” said Hall, who noted that the determined group – composed of people of all ages – persevered through spells of hot weather and rain showers. “Black Rock is a place full of heart and hustle, and this event showed just how much pride our neighbors have in where they live.
“Our cleanup resulted in the removal of FOUR shopping carts from the Scajaquada Creek (Behind Wegmans) with the help of Mark Kubiniec and friends! (Joe’s Service Center ). Over 30 volunteers/block captains participated, dozens of lbs. of trash were picked up, and several local businesses united for this community-building effort.”…
