Erie and Chautauqua residents rally for wind farm ban

SILVER CREEK, N.Y. — Representatives from New York State, Erie and Chautauqua counties are joining protestors at a rally voicing concerns on proposed wind turbines in Lake Erie. The protest is set for Wednesday, July 9 at 4pm outside of the Sunset Bay Beach Club.

Congressman Nick Langworthy (R-NY) previously introduced federal legislation to curb developers from using tax credits for turbine construction on the Great Lakes. Langworthy has stated that since the projects may not be feasible without government subsidies, the measure would “effectively stop developers form pursuing these projects.”

The congressman has voiced his concerns that the wind farms are “expensive and unreliable,” and that they may harm the ecosystem of the lakes. A representative from the congressman’s office will be in attendance for the protest…
