Lancaster man sentenced for sending threatening texts in connection with civil case

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Lancaster man has been sentenced for sending threats of harm via text in connection with a high-profile civil case, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Just after 10:20 p.m. on March 24, 2024, 27-year-old Tyler Vogel sent threatening text messages to two victims. In the texts, Vogel threatened to harm or kill the victims if they did not stop what they were doing in a civil case outside of Erie County.

He used a paid background website to obtain the phone numbers and was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge on one count of second-degree aggravated harassment.

Vogel originally pleaded guilty to making a terroristic threat and making a threat of mass harm, but completed an interim probation program last April as part of a plea agreement. He was ordered to continue with counseling as a condition of his sentence…
