No cases in Erie County, but measles are on the move

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A rise in measles cases across the United States is raising concern and while Erie County hasn’t seen any new cases, health officials say the the risk is real.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said measles cases are at their highest in more than three decades. The outbreak began in an under-vaccinated community along the Texas-New Mexico border but has since spread to multiple states, including right here in New York.

Erie County has not had any reported cases since 2018, and that was a travel-related case that didn’t spread. Health officials warn measles is one of the most contagious viruses in the United States., that it spreads though the air through simple things like coughing, and squeezing…
