A former EMT who lives in Dunkirk was honored Friday for helping save a life during a softball game in Erie County. The near-tragic event occurred during the late innings of a Chadwick Bay Under-12 tournament game in Grand Island on July 12th. Karen Waible, who spoke with WDOE News, was umpiring the game when she underwent a medical event called a “vasovagal syncope,” where a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure leads to fainting.
