Umpire attacked after Dickinson softball game, Buffalo man charged with assault

A man has been charged with assault after allegedly attacking a 68-year-old umpire following a softball game in the Town of Dickinson.

Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti announced on Aug. 4 that Leonard P. Wackowski, of Buffalo, was indicted by a Broome County Grand Jury on July 29 on one count of second-degree assault stemming from the incident.

According to the charges, Carlos Chaluisant, a 68-year-old umpire, was walking to his vehicle following a July 6 game when Wackowski approached him and began yelling at him about calls made during the game. The district attorney’s office did not specify which game Chaluisant called…
