Severe Thunderstorms Cause Flash Flooding & Sewer Backups In Western New York

A typical Buffalo summer is filled with fun, sun, and tons of warm weather. However, from time to time, the warmer weather can also trigger a phenomenon that can wreak havoc in the region. In the summertime, the risk for severe thunderstorms increases due to the combination of hot weather and more moisture.

The National Weather Service breaks down the three things you need for a thunderstorm to develop, all of which we’ve had in Western New York over the last few days. So it should come as no surprise thata Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood warning was issued for parts of Buffalo, Kenmore, Tonawanda, and Eggertsville in the evening hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
