Teen sentenced for fatal 2023 shooting in LaSalle neighborhood

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 19-year-old was sentenced on Wednesday morning after he shot and killed a man in the summer of 2023 in the LaSalle neighborhood, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said.

19-year-old found guilty of murder for 2023 shooting

Jakai Lofton, of Buffalo, intentionally shot 21-year-old Quban Romell Najee Embry multiple times around 5:20 p.m. on Aug. 12. Embry was shot on the front porch of a residence on the 200 block of Shirley Avenue. He died at the scene.

Lofton was using an illegal gun and acting in concert with another teenager at the time. Anthony Borden, 19 and of Buffalo, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced Wednesday afternoon to eight years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision..

Lofton was sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 25 years to life in prison for second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
