Gov. Hochul considering criminal referral of Granville case for AG investigation

BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York Governor Kathy Hochul says she may refer the case involving the Buffalo Police Department and Erie County Sheriff’s Chief D.J. Granville to State Attorney General Letitia James for criminal investigation and possible prosecution.

Hochul, in response to questions from 2 On Your Side Investigates, said the alleged law enforcement cover-up between two of the region’s largest police agencies has raised “troubling concerns” that could undermine the public’s trust in police.

Multiple lawmakers from Buffalo and Erie County have called on James to launch an investigation into how police worked to conceal Granville’s hit-and-run crashes that damaged eight vehicles in April 2024…
