We continue the series on walking Buffalo, from the intrepid couple who walked every day—no matter the weather—in the early years of Covid. They think (without being systematic) they walked every street in Buffalo, and many in other cities and towns, taking some 30,000 photos, shared in this series. While not usually itineraries, we hope to encourage others to “walk the walk,” to see, observe and appreciate Buffalo—and beyond. Today’s Photo-Essay: From the Sublime to the Surreal: Walking the Malls of Western New York
We are outdoor walkers. Yes, we avoid the rain. But snow usually doesn’t deter us. We put on boots with lug soles and walk the one-way streets of the city, against the traffic of course, often in the middle of the street where the snow is packed down and the footing predictable. That worked until mid-December of 2024, when the early days of what would prove a miserable Queen City winter made the sidewalks, and even the streets, a risk we didn’t want to take. In the “old” days, we might have retreated to the tiny oval track at the downtown Buffalo Athletic Club (no longer there), or the much larger one at what was the Adam’s Mark Hotel (now the Buffalo Grand, closed) off Lower Terrace, also downtown…
