State pushes ahead with electric school bus order; some districts question costs

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Some kids returning to classes next week may be riding on new school buses which sound much quieter and don’t have diesel fumes coming out of the tailpipe.

We’re talking about electric zero emission buses required under a state mandate and it could be expensive for districts and their taxpayers to pay for that conversion.

The Lake Shore School District in early July showed off 20 new electric buses for their school fleet after saying it had a successful pilot program with this type of bus with lower costs for diesel and maintenance and even cold weather performance…
