Testimony starts in trial of Amherst Detective charged with lying to federal investigators

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Testimony began on Tuesday at the federal court trial of an Amherst police detective charged with lying to the FBI during its investigation Pharaoh’s strip club owner Peter Gerace.

Prosecutors are trying to prove that there was a closer relationship between Gerace and Detective Greg Trotter than Trotter let on when being questioned three years ago.

Friends, family, and some of Trotter’s Amherst police co-workers packed the courtroom where prosecutor Evan Glaberson told jurors in his 20 minute long opening statement that Trotter, “lied, misled, misdirected, and concealed” his relationship with Gerace “to protect himself from scrutiny.”…
