BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was sentenced to three to nine years in prison on Friday after he committed various fraud schemes totaling over $70,000, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.
From April 2019 to November 2020, 28-year-old Christian Johnson of Buffalo fraudulently obtained $52,340 in cash from different banks, officials said. He deposited forged checks into bank accounts he created for fake businesses and then withdrew the money before the checks were returned.
Prosecutors said Johnson also obtained $20,000 from an insurance company after he was in a car accident in March 2020, the district attorney’s office said. He claimed he was employed by one of his fake businesses and lost wages because of the crash…
