Courtroom Outburst in Niagara County Leads to Arrest and Injured Officer

A Buffalo man was taken into custody Wednesday following a disruptive incident at North Tonawanda City Court that resulted in injuries to a police officer.

According to the North Tonawanda Police Department, officers were called to the courthouse around 11am for a report of an agitated individual. The man was identified as 36-year-old William R. Weigold III of Buffalo. Authorities stated Weigold had been “verbally berating court staff, court officers, and responding officers.”

Weigold was escorted outside, but police say he continued creating a scene in the parking lot, “repeatedly and loudly swearing,” which drew concern from nearby residents and bystanders. Officers moved to arrest him for disorderly conduct, but Weigold ran, leading to a short foot chase. He was soon caught but resisted being handcuffed and fought with police before officers managed to subdue him…
