Niagara County confirms rabid raccoon; dogs under 45-day watch

NEWFANE, N.Y. — The Niagara County Department of Health on Thursday confirmed a rabid raccoon in the Town of Newfane.

The animal was found on Lockport Olcott Road and tested positive for rabies. The raccoon entered a garage on Sept. 1, where it encountered three vaccinated dogs, the health department said in a statement.
