23 Arrests Made Across Niagara County In Crime Crackdown

Police in Niagara County spent the past week arresting people accused of crimes. Niagara County comprises several cities, towns, and villages, including the City of Lockport, the City of North Tonawanda, the City of Niagara Falls, the Town of Lewiston, the Town of Lockport, the Town of Wheatfield, and the Village of Youngstown.

A Niagara County man was found guilty this week. A Niagara County Jury convicted 24-year-old Joshua Z. Chandler of Lockport of murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree, and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Chandler killed 27-year-old Rakeem Hamilton and seriously injured another victim in a shooting on July 2, 2023, in Lockport, according to Niagara Frontiers Publications. Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman said,

“This defendant opened fire with an illegal handgun on a car full of people over some dispute with the driver. Well, the driver escaped unharmed, but one passenger in that car was killed and another, a young lady, was shot in the face. We will be asking the judge to impose a maximum sentence on this defendant for these outrageous crimes.”

Chandler is facing up to 65 years to life in prison. He will be sentenced in December…
