Niagara Falls man charged after fatal wheel-off crash on QEW in St. Catharines

ST. CATHARINES, ON — The Niagara Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) near St. Catharines after a wheel detached from a pickup truck and struck two vehicles, killing a man.

Investigators say that a wheel from a vehicle traveling in the Fort Erie-bound lanes came off and crossed into on-coming traffic. The wheel struck two vehicles, resulting in the death of a 53-year-old driver at the scene. A 52-year-old passenger in that same vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
