Buffalo woman gets 18 to life for fatal shooting in 2024

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo woman was given 18 years to life in prison for a fatal shooting in the city’s Fillmore-Leroy neighborhood in 2024, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.

Latrice Purdie, 30, shot and killed 39-year-old Akeem Cortez around 6 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2024 on Wade Avenue near Holden Street. Cortez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Purdie pleaded guilty in August to second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She was facing a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
