Acting Buffalo Mayor Chris Scanlon has called out the owner of the Buffalo Grand Hotel.
He said the city plans to move forward with abandonment proceedings this month in an effort to take control of the hotel unless owner Harry Stinson pays off more than $300,000 in unpaid taxes and sewer fees, and addresses the more than 18 housing court violations the mayor says the property faces.
“He received a $25 million insurance payout,” Scanlon said. “He owns the building free and clear. He should be able to go out and find some financing to rectify the problems at that building and put that building back online. It is nearly 500 hotel rooms that the city of Buffalo can utilize and I saw a story where he claims he is going to aggressively fight the City of Buffalo on this. What I wish is that he would go over to the property and aggressively clean it up.”…
