Lockport man admits to theft after taking thousands from customers of WNY Backyard Enclosures

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Lockport man pleaded guilty to grand larceny charges after he stole nearly $40,000 from customers of his landscaping company in 2022, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.

Officials said Wayne Michalak, 52, was the owner and operator of WNY Backyard Enclosures. Between April and June 2022, he accepted at least three different down payments from three different customers and did not perform any work.

He accepted a total of $39,874.38 from the customers. In one instance on April 26, Michalak accepted over $28,000 to build a detached garage for a customer in Marilla, but never built it…
