Police chase stolen car from Amherst to Buffalo, arrest 18-year-old suspect

AMHERST, NY — An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday evening after a report of a stolen vehicle eventually led to a police pursuit that started in Amherst and spilled into Buffalo.

An Amherst Police detective spotted the vehicle — reported as stolen out of the City of Tonawanda — around 6:55 p.m., Thursday. When patrol units attempted to pull the driver over, the suspect refused to stop and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

Shortly after the pursuit began, Amherst Police said a marked patrol vehicle deployed a tire deflation device that disabled one of the vehicle’s tires. Despite the damage, the suspect continued driving into Buffalo, where the occupants eventually abandoned the vehicle…
