Chautauqua Co. DA not pursuing charges for August 2024 deadly shooting

(WJET/WFXP) — The Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office announced it will not be pursuing murder charges for the suspect accused of shooting and killing a Buffalo man in August 2024, deeming the deadly shooting to be self-defense.

Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt released a statement explaining that he will not be pursuing homicide charges for Jermaine Holloman of Jamestown, who allegedly shot and killed 25-year-old Corey Johnson of Buffalo, saying Johnson’s actions run contrary to NY homicide law.

He claims Johnson was the only one to pull out a gun during the fight and chased Holloman, trying to shoot him, which led to the fight that would end in Johnson’s death.

Johnson was found shot around 2:15 a.m. on August 16, 2024, in a parking lot in the 300 block of North Main Street and was rushed to UPMC Chautauqua, then UPMC Hamot, where he was later pronounced dead…
