Indictment expected to be dismissed after man spends over 26 years in prison for murder

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — After a woman was killed in 1993, a man previously convicted in her murder is now expected to have his indictment dismissed.

Deborah Meindl, 33, was strangled, beaten and stabbed to death at her Tonawanda residence on Feb. 17, 1993. James Pugh was convicted in her murder, though no physical evidence ever tied him to the case. Brian Scott Lorenzo was also convicted.

Documents said the two were connected to the case through “admissions” to friends as well as a coin found in a stolen vehicle.

Pugh spent over 26 years in prison and was released in 2019. A new trial was scheduled in 2023 due to DNA evidence taken from a necktie that was used during the murder…
