Mayor-elect Sean Ryan adding 4 deputy mayors to his staff

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Four new deputy mayors will be joining mayor-elect Sean Ryan in a reorganization of City Hall as he leads Buffalo starting next year.

Deputy mayor Eugenio Russi will be overseeing the Buffalo Police Department and the Buffalo Fire Department. Here’s what the other three will be doing:

  • Benjamin Swanekamp will be overseeing administration and finance, assessment and taxation, management information systems, public works and parks, and parking enforcement
  • Maria Whyte will be overseeing citizen services, community services, human resources, labor relations, and the law department
  • Thomas Baines will be overseeing the office of strategic planning and permit and inspection services

In a release, Ryan said the change will improve efficiency and save taxpayer dollars.

“Our incoming deputy mayors are deeply respected local leaders with diverse strengths,” he said. “Their experience will be integral to delivering the capable, responsive leadership needed to help every department in City Hall operate to its highest potential.”…
