Garbage Truck Operator Sentenced to Probation in West Side Pedestrian Injury Case

(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo sanitation worker has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty in connection with a 2024 crash that seriously injured a teenage pedestrian on the city’s West Side.

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced that Sasiya M. Davis-Johnson, 48, of Buffalo, was sentenced on December 18, 2025, to three years of probation following her conviction related to a pedestrian crash involving a City of Buffalo garbage truck. Her New York State driver’s license was also revoked for the duration of the sentence.

The incident occurred on October 2, 2024, at approximately 8:16 a.m. near the intersection of Rhode Island Street and 14th Street. According to prosecutors, Davis-Johnson was operating a garbage truck for the City of Buffalo Department of Public Works when she placed the vehicle in reverse and traveled the wrong direction on Rhode Island Street, a one-way roadway.

While reversing, the truck struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street. Authorities said the defendant’s actions were reckless and resulted in serious physical injuries to the victim…
