A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for illegally exporting live reptiles after falsely labeling them as toys in shipments bound for Hong Kong, federal officials announced this week.
Sentenced in Buffalo, Wei Qiang Lin will serve 24 months in prison. Lin was convicted of falsely labeling live turtles, snakes, and lizards as “fake toys” before exporting them overseas.
Lin was also fined $2,339, which authorities said was “how much U.S. currency he had on him when he was arrested.”…
