BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — State officials are calling it a record week for flu cases across New York. The State Department of Health reports there were a little more than 71,000 flu cases this past week, the most the department has ever recorded in one week since influenza was made reportable in 2004.
“It could get worse before it gets better,” said Dr. John Crane, a professor in the division of infectious diseases at the University at Buffalo. “The number of flu cases is still going up. It might be even worse after New Year’s.”
Dr. Thomas Russo, an infectious disease expert at the University at Buffalo, told WIVB News 4 about the age groups that have seen a rise in cases. “The largest number of cases we’re seeing at this point are in our pediatric population 17 years of age or less, followed by our seniors.”…
