BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Albert the Alligator — the 750-pound pet alligator seized by the DEC from a Hamburg home in March 2024 — is staying at a rehabilitation facility in Texas for now.
Earlier this year, a judge ordered the DEC to review Tony Cavallaro’s license to own Albert, or return Albert to Hamburg. The DEC appealed that decision but has since withdrawn that appeal; the DEC confirmed to WIVB News 4 that the appeal is no longer necessary because Cavallaro’s application was denied in July.
The DEC said that Albert will stay at the Texas rehabilitation facility for now. Cavallaro posted on social media this week that his attorney will be reviewing next steps.
