BUFFALO, N.Y. — For at least 10 months, Internal Affairs investigators looked into whether a Buffalo Police lieutenant who is D.J. Granville’s sister-in-law helped to conceal the sheriff’s narcotics chief’s role in a series of hit-and-run crashes in April 2024.
Lucia Esquilin was demoted from a Buffalo Police lieutenant to a detective sergeant. At least one other officer was also disciplined for how they responded to Granville’s crashes.
