Macy’s To Close A Dozen Locations Nationwide, Including 1 In Upstate New York

Macy’s to close more than a dozen location nationwide, including 1 in Upstate New York. Are we witnessing the end of the major retail giant or is this part of the company’s overall plan?

One year ago, almost to the date, Macy’s announced a list of 66 “non-go-forward” store locations. That list included 9 New York locations with the big picture plan to close approximately 150 locations, keeping 350 up and running. Today a few more are added to the list.

For a store that opened it’s doors in 1858, it is remarkable that they have any locations remaining 168 years later. Today Macy’s will continue their “Bold New Chapter” plan which will see the brand reinvesting in stronger locations and digital capabilities, so the total number of stores is changing, with a shift away from underperforming locations…
