Tonawanda police chief announces plans to retire

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Town of Tonawanda Police Chief James Stauffiger plans on retiring next month after serving the town for around 30 years, he announced Monday.

Feb. 19 will be Stauffiger’s last day. He joined the Tonawanda Police Department on Feb. 2, 1995 and became chief in 2019. In a release, Stauffiger called his role “one of the greatest honors of my life.”

“Chief Stauffiger served his community with distinction over the past 31 years and in particular over the past six and a half years as chief of Police,” said Town Supervisor Joseph Emminger. “When the Town Board appointed him in 2019, we could not have appointed a better person to lead the department.”…
