BUFFALO, N.Y. — A former DEA agent, charged in 2019 and convicted in 2024 of aiding drug dealers, has been sentenced to five years in prison.
It was less than federal sentencing guidelines suggested and far less than what prosecutors asked for, but far more than what lawyers for Joseph Bongiovanni had pitched when advocating on behalf of their client during an emotionally charged proceeding on Wednesday.
