Agreement between city of Buffalo, Police Benevolent Association draws criticism

An agreement signed late last year by the city of Buffalo and the Buffalo Police Benevolent Association in the final days of Chris Scanlon’s tenure as mayor is now drawing criticism.

The Memorandum of Agreement, which is not required to go to Common Council for approval, extends existing medical benefits for police and retirees through 2029, in exchange for a list of concessions from the union, which includes allowing lower-ranking officers to serve on SWAT.

Officials say this will not solve the city’s longstanding overtime problem…
