Horses Rescued From Frozen Pond in Western New York State

There was an incredibly tragic event this week in Western New York as two horses reportedly fell through the ice. Emergency crews raced to the scene after first reports indicated the horses were trapped up to their necks in the frigid water.

The forecast is calling for a slight warm-up this week after Arctic air moved across much of the United States over the past several weeks. The snowpack remains considerable, and wind chills were well below zero for much of the past few days. Emergency responders have had a difficult job no matter the call, but this particular rescue required extra support and was far more complicated than usual.
