Buffalo Common Council to vote on measure that would allow city budget to exceed tax levy

Buffalo Common Council is considering a measure that would allow Mayor Sean Ryan’s administration to present a budget that exceeds the tax cap.

According to council member Mitch Nowakowski, the amendment to Article 28 would allow the mayor’s office to present the Common Council with a budget that could exceed the state’s 2% tax levy limit. However, it doesn’t mean that the budget will exceed that limit.

Nowakowski says the city is currently facing a structural financial deficit that requires several measures to remedy it, including immediate, long-term revenue generation and cutting expenditures where feasible…
