BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Public Schools on Friday released an internal investigative report after a Buffalo police detective accused the schools of covering up reported sexual assault last spring.
In April 2025, Detective Richard Hy accused BPS of not reporting sexual assaults between students, deleting video of an attempted kidnapping and failing to report domestic abuse in a podcast clip that went viral. Two months later, BPS hired Rupp Pfalzgraf LLC to conduct an internal investigation.
At the time, BPS responded to Hy’s clip, saying that the schools “prioritized the safety and security of its students and staff every day.” A new report released Friday says that there was no intentional obstruction or cover-ups, but some issues still need to be addressed.
