CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — After heated debates and concerns raised by town residents, the Cheektowaga Town Board has approved a resolution which clarifies how Cheektowaga police will interact with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations.
At Tuesday night’s town board meeting, officials passed a resolution blocking the town from funding or supporting ICE operations. That includes the use of personnel, facilities, equipment, or information, unless it is “in the interest of public safety,” or required by a judicial warrant or court order.
Residents have been vocal about the town police departments alleged coordination with ICE, and have frequently filled the town chambers over the past few months…
