Internal Affairs records show Buffalo Police Chief was consulted night of Granville crash

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Internal Affairs records show that Lt. Lucia Esquilin called Buffalo Police Chief of Detectives Craig Macy shortly after midnight on April 12, 2024 from the scene of the crash involving Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Chief DJ Granville.

Macy retired in 2025, but returned to Buffalo Police in January and is the current acting Commissioner under the Ryan administration.

Internal Affairs records also reveal that other command staff on duty that night told investigators they were not notified about the circumstances surrounding the crash…
