Elderly man dead after house fire in Amherst

AMHERST, NY — An elderly man is dead after a house on North Bailey Avenue caught fire late Thursday night.

Eggertsville Hose Company’s Fire Chief John Whitehead, Jr. confirmed with 2 On Your Side that an elderly man was found dead inside the home. A firefighter was also reportedly taken to the hospital after inhaling smoke, but is expected to make a full recovery.

In a press release, Amherst Central Fire Alarm explained that around 11:45 p.m., firefighters responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call about a house fire with visible flames. Once at the scene, first responders reported heavy fire coming from the front of the house…
